I cannot join the room
“Room not found”
- Ask the host to read the four-character code directly from the current lobby.
- Use the complete invitation link or scan the QR code to avoid typing.
- Confirm that the host has not started the game. New players can join only while the room is in the lobby.
- If the room was created much earlier, create a new one. Inactive rooms are automatically deleted after two hours.
“Room is full”
A room supports up to 16 active players. The host can remove an accidental duplicate from the lobby, or the group can split into two rooms.
The QR code will not scan
Increase the host phone's brightness, hold the guest camera farther back, or use the Share invite link button. The four-character code is a fallback, not a different kind of room.
My phone locked, refreshed, or lost connection
Open the same room link in the same browser. Mafia Night stores a temporary player identifier and secret reconnect token in that browser's local storage. If the room still exists and that seat has not been removed, the game attempts to restore it.
Do not clear site data during a round. Clearing local storage, switching to a private browsing session, or opening the room in a different browser removes access to the saved reconnect token. Never share that token with anyone.
If automatic rejoining fails, tell the host. A player cannot create a second seat after the game has already started; the group may continue without that seat or restart from a new lobby.
The room seems stuck on a phase
Role reveal is waiting
Every connected player must press and hold to read their card, then select the ready button. Look for a player who has not confirmed. A disconnected player does not block the reveal forever.
Night is waiting
At least one connected role still has a required action. The Mafia, Detective, Doctor, and Serial Killer must confirm a target when alive. The Vigilante may explicitly hold fire. Players without night actions cannot advance the phase themselves.
Voting is waiting
Every connected living player must cast a ballot or abstain. Eliminated players watch but do not vote. If a phone disconnects, the server recalculates who is still required.
No one was eliminated
This can be correct. An exact tie produces no elimination. A unique suspect also survives when the abstention count equals or exceeds that suspect's votes.
I cannot see the host controls
The first active player in the room is the host. Only that seat can start the game, customize roles in the lobby, move from dawn into discussion, open a vote, advance after a verdict, remove players, or start a rematch.
If the host temporarily disconnects, they should rejoin in the same browser. The host role is not automatically transferred during an active game. If the original host cannot return and the game needs a host-only action, the reliable recovery is to create a new room.
Audio, vibration, and display issues
I hear no sound
Check media volume and silent-mode behavior. Some mobile browsers do not allow audio until the page has received a tap. Sound is atmospheric; every necessary instruction and result also appears as text.
The page zooms or a button is covered
Return browser zoom to its default, rotate back to portrait, and dismiss any browser toolbar or keyboard covering the bottom controls. Mafia Night is designed primarily for current mobile browsers.
My role appeared in the wrong theme
The host can switch between Mafia and Werewolf only in the lobby. Theme changes apply to every player and lock when the round starts. The underlying role behavior is identical.
Data, names, and privacy
Can I delete my game data?
There is no persistent match database. Room data is held in memory and deleted after two inactive hours. You can remove the remembered display name and reconnect information sooner by clearing site data in your browser.
Should I use my real name?
No. A nickname is enough. Other players in the private room see the display name and avatar you choose.
Does the live game show ads?
Standard display ads are not requested inside the lobby, night actions, discussion, voting, results, or error screens. Advertising may appear on substantial public guides. See the Privacy Policy for cookie and consent details.
