Mafia Narrator Script

Running Mafia in person? Here's a complete narrator script you can read word-for-word β€” setup, night, day, and win announcements β€” plus printable role cards at the bottom. It works for any group of 6–16 players.

Don't want to sit out and narrate?

Mafia Night replaces the narrator entirely β€” roles are dealt to each phone and the night runs itself, so everyone gets to play.

Before the game

Shuffle the role cards (print ours below) and deal one to each player, face down. For a standard game use 1 Mafia per 3–4 players, one Detective, one Doctor, and Villagers for everyone else. Players peek at their card and keep it secret. As narrator, you sit out and run the game.

Everyone, look at your card secretly, then place it face down. In this town, some of you are not who you say you are. When I say night falls, everyone closes their eyes. No peeking β€” I'm watching.

Night one

Night falls on the town. Everyone, close your eyes.
Mafia β€” open your eyes and silently find your partners. … Now, agree on one victim by pointing. … Mafia, close your eyes.
Detective β€” open your eyes and point at one player. (Silently nod if they're Mafia, shake your head if not.) Detective, close your eyes.
Doctor β€” open your eyes and point at one player to protect tonight. You may protect yourself. … Doctor, close your eyes.

Narrator tip: run the roles in the same order every night, and keep talking evenly even when a role is dead β€” silence gives away who's still alive.

Dawn & day

The sun rises. Everyone, open your eyes. Last night, the Mafia paid a visit to… [victim's name]. [Name], you are dead β€” you may not speak for the rest of the game.

If the Doctor saved the victim:

The sun rises β€” and the town wakes to a miracle. The Mafia struck, but the Doctor was there first. Nobody died last night.
Town, you have five minutes. Someone among you is lying. Discuss.

The vote

Time's up. On the count of three, point at the player you want to eliminate. One… two… three.
[Name], the town has spoken. You were… [reveal their card].

Then night falls again. Repeat until one side wins.

Announcing the winner

The last Mafia member has been eliminated. The town is safe β€” Town wins!
The Mafia now equal the town. There's no stopping them β€” Mafia wins!

Using this as a Werewolf narrator script

This script doubles as a Werewolf narrator script β€” the games are identical. Just swap the words as you read: the Mafia become the Werewolves, the Detective becomes the Seer, and the Doctor becomes the Healer. "Night falls on the town" becomes "the moon rises over the village," and the wolves howl instead of paying visits. Everything else β€” the order of night calls, the vote, the win announcements β€” stays exactly the same. Prefer the wolf theme with no narrator at all? Play Werewolf Night online.

Or retire the narrator

The narrator has the worst seat in the house: they see everything and play nothing. Mafia Night moves the whole night phase onto each player's phone β€” secret roles, silent Mafia coordination, Detective results, live voting β€” so the person who used to narrate gets to lie with everyone else.
